I have re-homed these little blocks, @ 11 1/2" square, more or less. The petals are like the Lafeyette Orange peel. Rumor has it a young lady attended a ball with General Lafayette where he supposedly ate an orange and she carried it away. The petal shape itself, if pointed at each end, has also been called Bay Leaf, Tea Leaf and Lovers Knot, just to name a few. The pieces are all sewn down with a very thin white thread, not needle turned. The black ring is a little over 1/4" wide. I have never seen this before, very strange. Every block uses scraps with the muslin and black the only unifying elements.
I have a vintage linen washing powder that I have used with some success! I'll be getting a package in the mail to you ASAP--so don't do anything yet! You soak them in the powder and water for 24 hours and then rinse and dry flat or hanging would be fine for something so light. This wouldn't damage the fabric, I wouldn't think! They're gorgeous! I believe that I have your address!
ReplyDeleteI am not a quilter, so cannot offer any suggestions, but I did want to tell you how pretty this is!! What a great find!!!

What a GORGEOUS find, good for you! I have no experience with vintage quilts - so I'm not going to say, I don't want to steer you wrong. But I'm glad you were able to rescue them!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful find...you lucky girl!
ReplyDeleteGreat find. I like those blocks too.
ReplyDeleteBlocks from the 20's or 30's for sure. What a good find.
