Mr.Froggy...I love you!

I finally finished the frogs...can you see the great lily pad fabric I found in my shop...totally perfect for the border...did I mention that before, lol.

So I took a deep breath, pin basted Mr.Froggy quilt with my favorite batting, cotton request and a green mottled fabric and started cross hatch quilting. I hated it. It was awful!

Reason 1: ahhh, hello, did it ever occur to me to use a really cool thread...like GREEN or varigated?

Reason 2: did I really have multi seizures during the sewing?

Reason 3: oh I know...always start with something smaller and work up to something bigger...especially if it has appliques!

No worries, Liam will love his froggy buddy blankie and that is really the important factor. I did learn alot while quilting this. I actually was amazed at how quickly it went. I am not sure I would do cross hatch quilting on a piece with appliques again...ever!

Will I ever machine quilt again...oh you betcha! I have a really big pile of tops begging to be quilted. I will do a bunch of little pieces first to try and get comfortable with the technique before I do another biggie.

I do love the crinkly look and comfy feel of it...it amazed me how wonderful it was.

Off to bed with me, now go quilt something, Elaine

A tribute to frogs everywhere!

I had the most fun today with the, "It's Not Easy Being Green", quilt for my grandson. It is featured in the August 2009 Quilters World magazine. It's 49"x73".

It calls for Batik fabrics so I used those thru out. It also calls for machine applique which I CANNOT DO AT ALL!, so I hand appliqued with blanket stitch and my favorite Valdani threads. I got impatient so put the top together before I finished the frogs, lol! When I got to the outer border I remembered I had a couple bolts of different water lilies. I used the plain one and am very happy with my choice. I love it and hope Liam does to.

Tomorrow I am going to machine quilt it, thanks be to Amanda Jean from crazymomquilts. She is the most awesome inspiring quilter in the world! I only hope she realizes how much she inspires others to bite the bullet and plow ahead!

Enjoy, now go quilt something...Elaine

Well, I am off to my bff's house for the next few days. She is getting married Saturday afternoon and I have voluntered to help her set up the wedding place and watch for gremlins. The gremlin thing is mine, sounded cool at the time.

I will try to post before next week but no promises, lol. I hope you have a great weekend, Elaine

I'll leave you with a pic of dear son and his little bride...one of my favorite pics!
